Outline
Data Analysis Summary
There is a rise of both men and women who have never married over time in every age group. As people age, the number of people who have never married decreases but the percentage of unwedded in 2016 is still higher than in 2006.
Project Goals
Use containers as a color design element
Optimize my viz documentation

Project Discussion
Challenges
Placing each age grouping with gender pairing on one chart created a very messy line chart. The solution - creating a different graph for each age group/gender pair. Then on the dashboard, using containers to create the feel of a small multiple chart. The final challenge - how to make this visual look polished. I also paid attention to the y-axis. The top two charts used the same scale, while the bottom three had a different scale so that differences could seem easier for each grouping. Another thing done to create a cleaner overview is the top charts; the x-axis was hidden.

Data
Source
Nevermarried.xls extracted from the US Census data is the data source Makeover Monday Challenge 2021 wk 23.
Wrangling
The data did not have any missing data points and was a tidy data set. The year field changed to date with a custom year (YYYY) setting. The field Never Married was defined as a number with no decimal points.
Code Notes
Calculations
No calculations are required with this project.
Colors Used
For this viz, I used my typical go-to color for male (#9567FE Medium Slate Blue) and female (#FD6320 Orange Red). When working with gender data, I avoid the blue/pink combo and the bias those colors convey. I then used complementary colors for text, backgrounds, and title for the rest of the viz. I refer to this color palette as Genderly (additional details and tableau code).
Tableau Generated Documentation
Using Command + E on the mac for each worksheet, you can get the following formation. Since each sheet is the same, just changing the age filter, I combined all the info.

Final Thoughts
Project Analysis
More people are getting married later in life, and many people elect not to get married compared to previous years. This trend has a social and economic impact on both individuals and people.
Project Creation
I do see an improvement over time with creating a complete viz in a limited time. My next phase of concentration is to working on visual impact, storytelling and documentation.
