Key Findings
On October 22, 2020, Poland's Constitutional Tribunal issued a ruling that effectively banned abortion in nearly all circumstances. The decision was met with immediate and widespread opposition. According to polling data, 73% of Polish citizens disagreed with the ruling.
Protests followed not only across Poland but in cities throughout Europe and around the world, under the rallying cry "To Jest Wojna" ("This Is War"). The dataset, prepared by Hania Nykowska from Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet (the All-Poland Women's Strike), documents the locations and scale of protests held in solidarity with Polish women from October through December 2020.
This visualization maps those protest locations globally, showing the geographic breadth of international solidarity. The color palette draws from the Polish flag, using Mahogany (#D22630) and White (#FFFFFF), as a deliberate design choice to anchor the data in its political context.

To Jest Wona! This is War! The protesters chanted, not just in Poland, in Europe but around the world. On the 22nd of October 2020, the Polish Constitutional Tribunal voted on a law to prohibit abortion in Poland, practically speaking. 73 % of the people of Poland disagree with the ruling. This vote triggered protests in support of around the world for Polish women and men.
The Polish flag colors - Mahogany (#D22630) and White (#FFFFFF) influenced the color selection. The original viz also was the influence my work. The original viz goes into much more detail and is worth reviewing. My goal was to honor the original large work with a single panel viz.
I am using the Makeover Monday weekly challenges as a way to prep for the tableau certification. For this reason, the time spent creating a viz is limited to 40 minutes.
